KS3

Core theme 1: Health and wellbeing

Students should have the opportunity to learn:

  • H27 — to recognise strategies to manage different influences (including peer influence) on their decisions about the use of substances (including clarifying and challenging their own perceptions, values and beliefs)
  • H28 — the personal and social risks and consequences of substance use and misuse, including the benefits of not drinking alcohol (or delaying the age at which to start) and the benefits of not smoking (including not harming others with secondhand smoke)

Core Theme 2: Relationships

Students should have the opportunity to learn:

  • R31 — to understand the feelings and pressure that the need for peer approval can generate, including in relation to the purchase and use of tobacco and alcohol (including cheap alcohol, illicit alcohol and cigarettes), drugs and other risky behaviours
  • R32 — to understand the terms 'habit', 'dependence' and 'addiction' in a wide variety of contexts (including substance use and information technology) and where and how to access support if they have concerns

Learning outcomes

Teach your students about the impact alcohol can have on their health, wellbeing and overall lifestyle.

After this lesson, students will be able to:

  • identify the link between physical and mental wellbeing
  • describe strategies for improving physical and mental wellbeing
  • explain ways to help those who need support with their physical or mental wellbeing
