The Healthier Snacking Show: upper KS2 PowerPoint

Developed with teachers, this interactive and engaging presentation teaches pupils about choosing healthier snacks and encourages audience participation.

It also includes curriculum-linked extension ideas and opportunities to get parents involved.

Curriculum

English: spoken language / reading / writing

  • become more confident in using language in a greater variety of situations, for a range of audiences and purposes, including through drama, formal presentations and debate
  • provide reasoned justifications for their views
  • retrieve, record and present information from non-fiction
  • plan writing by identifying the audience for and purpose of the writing
  • note and develop initial ideas
  • draft and write by selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary

Maths

  • solve problems involving multiplication
  • solve problems involving the calculation and conversion of units of measure
  • interpret and construct charts and graphs

PSHE

Core Theme 1: health and wellbeing

  • what positively and negatively affects their physical health
  • how to make informed choices (including recognising that choices can have positive, neutral and negative consequences) and begin to understand the concept of a "balanced lifestyle"
  • to recognise opportunities to make their own choices about food, what might influence their choices, and the benefits of eating a balanced diet.

Learning objectives

After the lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • identify healthier snack choices and explain their decisions
  • interpret food labels to understand sugar content
