The Healthier Snacking Show: lower KS2 PowerPoint

Developed with teachers, this interactive and engaging presentation teaches pupils about choosing healthier snacks and encourages audience participation. It also includes curriculum-linked extension ideas for Year 3 and 4 pupils, and opportunities to get parents involved. To experience the full effect, play it on your interactive whiteboard with the sound on!

Curriculum

English: spoken language / reading / writing

  • Become more confident using language in a greater variety of situations and for a range of audiences and purposes, including through drama, formal presentations and debate.
  • Preparing poems and play scripts to read aloud and perform, showing understanding through intonation, tone, volume and action.
  • Retrieve and record information from non-fiction.
  • Plan writing by discussing and recording ideas.

Maths

  • Multiply and divide numbers mentally, drawing on known facts and solve problems involving multiplication.
  • Read and interpret information in tables.
  • Use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve problems involving measure.

PSHE

Core theme 1: health and wellbeing

  • What positively and negatively affects their physical health.
  • How to make informed choices (including recognising that choices can have positive, neutral and negative consequences) and begin to understand the concept of a "balanced lifestyle".
  • To recognise opportunities to make their own choices about food, what might influence their choices, and the benefits of eating a balanced diet.

Learning objectives

After the lesson, pupils will be able to:

  • identify healthier snack choices and explain their decisions
  • interpret food labels to understand sugar content
