Healthier snacking school council toolkit

Developed with teachers, this toolkit has a range of fun activity ideas for school councils to promote healthier snacking. It includes:

  • an ideas sheet, including healthier snacking "mini missions", suggestions for school surveys and newsletter features, and lots of creative activities to get parents involved in school initiatives
  • a PowerPoint presentation designed to be delivered by school council members to explain the importance of healthier snacking to their peers or parents

Curriculum

PSHE – Core theme 1: health and wellbeing

KS1

  • What constitutes, and how to maintain, a healthy lifestyle – including healthy eating and dental health.
  • To recognise what they like and dislike and how to make real, informed choices that improve their physical health.

KS2

  • What positively and negatively affects their physical health.
  • How to make informed choices (including recognising that choices can have positive, neutral and negative consequences) and begin to understand the concept of a "balanced lifestyle".
  • To recognise opportunities to make their own choices about food, what might influence their choices, and the benefits of eating a balanced diet.

PSHE – Core Theme 3: living in the wider world

KS1

  • How they can contribute to the life of the classroom and school.

KS2

  • To research, discuss and debate topical issues, problems and events that are of concern to them and offer their recommendations to appropriate people.
