Eatwell guide
The eatwell guide highlights the different types of food that make up our diet, and helps children learn the proportions we should eat to have a healthier and more balanced diet.
It is also a widely accepted and easily recognisable visual aid to help promote balanced eating.
Get the whole school involved
Get children to keep a lunch diary and compare it to the eatwell guide. Are they eating a balanced diet?
In the classroom
The eatwell guide can help you demonstrate to children what proportion of food they should eat from the different food groups.
How to use:
- ask children to look at what foods are in each section of the eatwell guide
 - discuss the different food groups and why you need to eat more of some groups than others
 - discuss the origins of food from the different food groups
